Time tripping or stoned is best spent in nature, meditation, or in joyous camaraderie.
However,
if you insist on a movie here are my picks by genre (not importance) of movies to watch while stoned out of your mind or tripping like people in a room full of marbles, banana peels, and roller skates.
I. Action
“The Matrix”
1999
Most
of us have seen it or least know about Keanu Reeves and the
incredible 'bullet time' effects. This Sci-Fi Action flick was a
massive success and led to two sequels as well an animated
compilation film. It poses the question of are we just cogs in a machine or do our beliefs make us who we are?
Why
high? What is more bad ass than kung fu fighting cyber punks that can
dodge bullets? Relive a modern classic in a frame of mind that will
actually have you asking, “What is real?”
II.
Sci-Fi / THAT kind of Sci-fi
"Arrival"
For me, true sci-fi forces us to ask those painful philosophical questions that we desperately try to evade. It does so by posing realistic what-if scenarios. Arrival is one of the most fitting movies for that situation. What if extra terrestrials came to Earth? Well, the first thing would be trying to communicate, and "Arrival" dives into that exactly.
Why high? The entire time you will be thinking of ways to communicate with others beyond speech. If you can't take it seriously (which you should) you'll at least look hysterical flapping your arms trying to communicate with your friend to pass the popcorn.

III. Adventure / Fantasy
“The Secret Of Kells”
2009
An
Irish animated film about a boy being called to a magical adventure
while his home is under siege. It has everything an adventure film
should have but within 75 minutes. And yes, some characters speak Irish.
Why
high? You won't be able to keep your head together between the
incredible score and the stunning visuals. Plus, let's face it, your
trip would wear off halfway through the first Lord Of The Rings.
IV.
Animated / “Cliche Disney Flick”
“Frozen”
2013
This
recent Disney hit is the highest grossing animated film ever. It is
loved by many and a guilty pleasure of everyone else. If you really need a synopsis, then google it you stone age cretin.
Why
high? Stimulate your eyes with an abundance of icy fractals! It's
also a great way to take hold of your bad trip and LET IT GOOOOOO!
V.
Drama
“Boyhood”
2014
This
coming of age film by Richard Linklater took over 12 years of filming
and takes place between 2002 and 2014. It's a heavy drama about boys becoming... well, not boys. Life is a trip in and of itself so double up.
Why
high? Watch a story about growing up and seeing the actual cast
literally aging in front of you. While this movie hits some hard
emotions, it's almost relieving to watch with enlightened eyes. If it hurts, you deserve it. No one watches serious dramas while high you masochist.
VI.
Documentary
“Score: A Film Music Documentary”
2016
Ever
wanted to know what it's like behind the scenes for movie musicians?
This documentary features some of the biggest names in score writing
and a look at how it's all done.
Why
high? You will be entranced by numerous memorable themes and
astounded by the number of people it takes to make it happen.
Seemingly every musician is praising each other providing a feel good
vibe too.
VII.
Music Video
“Woodstock”
1970
Take
a trip to the past to one of the biggest, most memorable, landmark
concerts of all time. It's a marvel featuring a generation that influenced not just popular music, but human history. It features numerous major acts of the time
such as The Who, Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, and Santana.
Why
high? DUDE, It's Woodstock! What other way is there to watch it?
VIII.
Foreign Flick
"A Town Called Panic"
2009
If
you are in the mood for subtitles, this French fiasco film will make you laugh a river of tears. Follow Cowboy, Indian, and their leader
Horse in their misadventures. Even if you aren't one for subtitles, this movie will surprise the heck out of you.
Why
high? Two words: Stop... Motion... Try keeping up with the surrealism as
well as the inept protagonist trio. The insanely crafted landscapes, as well as the absurd and slapstick humor will make
you lose your mind.
IX. Comedy
"Mystery Science Theater 3000"
ANY EPISODE
Finding the perfect comedy is a very difficult task. I could be cliche with something like "The Big Lebowski." I could embrace the nostalgia of my high school era with "Anchorman" or "Team America" I could push a classic like "Spaceballs." However I understand no one that high can watch a movie without having to comment at some point. Why not embrace it?
Why high? You have an arsenal of episodes to pick from where you and your loved ones can throw down the biggest burns the way they were meant to be: together.
X. Musical
?????????????????????
????
I can't answer this one. I simply can't tell you the best
musical to watch because the truth is this:
Any musical
is the best musical
when high.
Just be cautious showing up to your local live rendition of The Rocky Horror Picture Show too lit. Strange things can happen at the theater...
So you stuck around wondering where my horror or suspense suggestion was. Seriously, what's wrong with you? FINE, you want a horror movie? Get as messed up as possible and go watch "Rubber" directed by Quentin Dupieux (2010). I'm not telling you anything about it. Don't even read the synopsis. Don't even watch the trailer. Rent it, buy it, or borrow it. Just watch it and then leave a comment.
